La fida ninfa is a brilliant example of baroque bel canto opera and is typical of Vivaldi’s gallant style of the 1730s. The arias are amongst Vivaldi’s finest and cover a range of passions from the tender Dolce fiamma to the fiery Alma oppressa and Destin nemico, both raging coloratura numbers which show Vivaldi as a composer full of confidence at the height of his artistic powers.
